A CARELESS thief who burgled a well known Gorey pharmacy showed he has expensive taste in aftershave this week when he made off with six black sacks and a sports bag full of designer cologne products.

In his haste to make off with the goods, however, he failed to notice that CCTV footage was capturing his every move, which he made without covering his face or wearing gloves.

The incident happened at Unicare Pharmacy, Esmonde Street at 4:02am on Friday when the thief removed an entire pane of glass from the premises, which faces out onto St. Michael's Road, to gain entry.

He proceeded to turn a security camera in the opposite direction but was caught on another camera which he failed to notice.

The intruder spent up to thirty minutes pilfering bottles of Hugo Boss, Armani, D&G, JP Gaultier and Lacoste ladies and gents products which are believed to have a retail value amounting to thousands of Euro.

The alarm was raised a number of hours later when staff members arrived for work.

It is believed he had prior knowledge of the premises as he never approached any drugs cabinets which would have triggered alarms.

He attempted to open a cash register to no avail.

Gardai are satisfied that they have very clear CCTV footage and are looking for a thin man of 6 feet 2 inches with fair hair.

He wore a black hoodie with white stripes on the front and sleeves with faded jeans and black shoes.

Gardai are not ruling out the possibility of an accomplice who may have kept watch.

The store was sealed off for forensic examinations and remained closed for some time afterwards.

Gorey Gardai are appealing for anyone who noticed suspicious activity on the morning in question to contact the station at 053 94 21222.

They are also asking the public to be vigilant if approached with a view to purchasing similar products.
