The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is hard at work on producing a list of safe drugs that women can take during pregnancy.

For years now, women have been kept in the dark in regards to which drugs are safe and which are not to take while they are pregnant.

They will be in the dark no longer as the FDA is going to be coming out with official guidelines on which drugs can be put on the safe list.

Prescription drugs are very common among pregnant women, but past studies have been unclear as to what should be taken and what shouldn't.

The FDA announced plans to carry out a study that will look into this, teaming up with the HMO Research Network Center for Education and Research and Therapeutics (CERT), as well as Vanderbilt University, and Kaiser Permanente.

The study is going to take place at 11 different medical facilities.

They will focus on a total of 1 million births that took place between 2001 and the year 2007.

The hope is that as the conclusion of this study, a firm set of guidelines will be put in place to paint a clearer picture of what is safe in regards to prescription drugs for pregnant women.
