![]() Vardenafil versus Brand-Namevardenafi vs. Brand-Name vardenafiMost brand-name drugs on the market today will eventually have a generic version developed that is more affordable than the brand-name drug due to the pharmaceuticals patent expiring. In the past few years, there has been an increase in drugs on the market that are designed to help with erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence. Most notably was when Sildenafil citrate came onto the market and was advertised by Bob Dole. Since then, there have been other varieties that have become available. vardenafi has become the next big drug to treat impotence. The vardenafi became available in August 2003. This generic drug, Vardenafil or vardenafi, is substantially more affordable than the brand name vardenafi. Because of the difference in price most people wonder what the differences are between the two drugs. vardenafi is more affordable because the company that produces it has been able to copy the original. Brand-name drugs tend to be more expensive because the pharmaceutical company has to be able to get their money back from all of the research that they have done while producing their drug. vardenafi is essentially the same drug with the same active ingredients. vardenafi has the same dosage, method of administration, strength and side effects as brand-name vardenafi. The FDA requires the same strict policies on generic drugs as they do the brand-name drugs. Often times the generic version of a drug may look or taste differently than the brand-name drug. This is because there are trademark laws in the United States that prohibit the generic drugs from being exactly the same as the brand-name. vardenafi may look different and have different inactive ingredients, however, the FDA requires that vardenafi and other generic drugs work as quickly and effectively as the brand-name drugs. vardenafi also works in the same manner as brand-name vardenafi. vardenafi inhibits phosphodiesterase-5 enzymes, which help increase the blood flow to the penis. The PDE-5 enzymes work against the cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) enzymes that open the arteries and allow blood into the penile tissues. vardenafi can be used to treat mild to severe erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction may be cause by other problems such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes. Erections occur because the penile tissues become engorged in blood. If a man is suffering from high cholesterol, blood pressure or diabetes then the arteries are not able to open and allow as much blood flow through. When this occurs, the penis is unable to gain an erection or sustain a quality erection. vardenafi can be taken with these disorders; however, one must consult their doctor before use. vardenafi works as effectively as brand-name vardenafi and is safe to use. Most patients will choose to use the generic version of the drug because it is easier on the pocketbook and some insurance companies will not pay for the full amount of the brand-name drugs. |
