Generic Singulair is a leukotriene inhibitor. It reduces the swelling and inflammation that tend to close up the airways, and relaxes the walls of the bronchial tubes, expanding the airways and permitting more air to pass through.
Active Ingredients: Montelukast Sodium.
Inactive Ingredients: hydroxypropyl cellulose, lactose monohydrate, croscarmellose sodium, microcrystalline cellulose, and magnesium stearate.

Generic Singulair - Montelukast is an oral leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA) for the maintenance treatment of asthma. It is also used to treat allergy symptoms. Generic Singulair is used to relieve the stuffy, runny nose and sneezing caused by seasonal allergies. It is not useful for the treatment of acute asthma attacks, so atients should also be supplied with rescue medication, such as an albuterol inhaler.

Follow the instructions for using this medicine provided by your health care professional. Chew thoroughly before swallowing. It can be taken with or without food. Usually, it is taken once daily in the evening if this medicine is being taken for asthma. If taking for hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis), take the medicine at about the same time each day (either evening or morning). If you are taking for both asthma and hay fever, take the medicine in the evening.

Store this medicine away from heat, moisture, and light, at room temperature 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container.

If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your health care professional immediately. Generic Singulair should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
If you are taking certain medicines which stimulate liver metabolism (e.g., phenytoin, phenobarbital, carbamazepine), rifamycin antibiotics (e.g., rifampin), or other asthma medicines you may need additional monitoring of your dose or condition.
Your health care professional should be informed of any other medical conditions including certain blood disorders (phenylketonuria), liver problems, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. It is important to take the dosage exactly as directed by your doctor.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the previous dose.
NOTE: Do not use double or extra doses.

Symptoms of overdose may include dilated pupils, thirst, increased muscle movements, drowsiness, or severe stomach pain. If overdose is suspected, contact your local emergency immediately in order to get first medical aid.

You should contact your health care professional immediately if you experience any of these very serious side effects:
• irregular heartbeat;
• stomach pain;
• yellowing eyes/skin;
• numbness/tingling of the hands or feet;
• swelling
• muscle aches/cramps;
• easy bruising or bleeding;
• seizures.

This medicine can provoke an allergic reaction. The symptoms of it are:
• severe swelling;
• severe dizziness;
• trouble breathing;
• rash;
• itching.

Other side effects than listed above may also appear. Contact your health care professional if something bothers you.

Tell your health care professional if you are taking Phenobarbital (Luminal, Solfoton) or rifampin (Rimactane, Rifadin). You may not be able to take Generic Singulair - Montelukast, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during your treatment.

Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Generic Singulair - Montelukast. Talk to your health care professional before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines, including herbal products.

Keep this medicine out of the reach of children and pets.
