Generic Flomax- Tamsulosin is a drug for the treatment of men who are having difficulty urinating because of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In men, the tube which carries urine from the bladder to the penis (called the urethra) travels through the prostate gland. As men get older, the prostate gland enlarges, and the muscle cells within the prostate gland and the neck of the bladder (which control the flow of urine) tighten. The combination of enlargement and tightening of muscles compresses the urethra and obstructs the flow of urine. This results in difficulty urinating and retention of urine within the bladder. The tightening or contraction of the muscle cells is controlled by nerves. One type of nerve, the alpha adrenergic nerves, cause the muscle cells to tighten by releasing a chemical related to epinephrine (adrenalin). Generic Flomax- Tamsulosin blocks the effects of this chemical on the muscle cells and causes the muscles to relax. This results in a decrease in obstruction to the flow of urine. There are other drugs which block alpha adrenergic nerves throughout the body and which are used in treating diseases of the heart, blood vessels, and prostate for example, prazosin (Minipress), terazosin (Hytrin), doxazosin (Cardura), and alfuzosin (Uroxatral). Generic Flomax- Tamsulosin is more active against the alpha adrenergic nerves of the prostate and bladder neck than these other drugs and has a lesser effect on alpha adrenergic nerves elsewhere in the body. For this reason, Generic Flomax- Tamsulosin causes fewer side effects, especially low blood pressure, than other alpha adrenergic blocking drugs. Moreover, Generic Flomax- Tamsulosin therapy can be started at the optimum dose whereas other alpha adrenergic blocking drugs need to be started at low doses with the doses slowly increased over time in order to minimize the side effects. Generic Flomax- Tamsulosin was approved by the FDA in 1997.

Other Ingredients: methacrylic acid copolymer, microcrystalline cellulose, triacetin, polysorbate 80, sodium lauryl sulfate, calcium stearate, talc, FD&C blue No. 2, titanium dioxide, ferric oxide, gelatin, and trace amounts of shellac, industrial methylated spirit 74 OP, n-butyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, propylene glycol, dimethylpolysiloxane, and black iron oxide E172.

Generic Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin is used to treat the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH; condition in which the prostate [a male reproductive gland] enlarges and interferes with the flow of urine from the bladder) such as frequent, urgent need to urinate during the day and at night, weak urine stream, and difficulty urinating. Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin is in a class of medications called alpha blockers. It works by relaxing the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck so that urine can flow easily.

Generic Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin comes as a capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day. Take Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully, and ask your doctor or pharmacist to explain any part you do not understand. Take Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.
Swallow Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin capsules whole; do not split, chew, or crush them.
Your doctor will probably start you on a low dose of Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin and may increase your dose after 2-4 weeks.
Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin may help control your condition, but it will not cure it. Continue to take Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin without talking to your doctor.

STORAGE
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed. Talk to your pharmacist about the proper disposal of your medication.

Before taking Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin,
Yell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin, sulfa medications, any other medications, or any of the inactive ingredients in Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin capsules. Ask your pharmacist for a list of the inactive ingredients. You can also ask your pharmacist if you are not sure if a medication you are allergic to contains sulfa.
Tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications, vitamins, nutritional supplements and herbal products you are taking or plan to take. Be sure to mention any of the following: alpha blockers such as alfuzosin (Uroxatral), doxazosin (Cardura), prazosin (Minipress), and terazosin (Hytrin); cimetidine (Tagamet); and warfarin (Coumadin). Your doctor may need to change the doses of your medications or monitor you more carefully for side effects.
Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had kidney disease.
You should know that Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin is only for use in men. Women should not take Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin, especially if they are pregnant or could become pregnant or are breast-feeding. If a pregnant woman takes Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin, she should call her doctor.
If you are having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin. If you need to have eye surgery at any time during or after your treatment, be sure to tell your doctor that you are taking or have taken Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin.

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one. If you interrupt your treatment for several days or longer, call your doctor before restarting the medication, especially if you take more than one capsule a day.

Seek emergency medical attention if an overdose is suspected. Symptoms of a Generic Generic Flomax - Tamsulosin overdose include weakness; dizziness; fainting; a weak, fast pulse; cold, clammy skin; and, possibly, loss of consciousness or coma.

Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:
Rare or uncommon: difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, prolonged painful erection of the penis (priapism) More common: fainting spells, visual problems, weakness Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):

• back pain
• diarrhea
• dizziness
• drowsiness
• sexual problems (ejaculation problems or decreased sex drive)
• headache
• insomnia
• nausea
• runny or stuffy nose

Before taking Generic Flomax- Tamsulosin , talk to your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines:
• terazosin (Hytrin)
• prazosin (Minipress)
• doxazosin (Cardura)
• cimetidine (Tagamet, Tagamet HB)
• warfarin (Coumadin).

You may not be able to take Generic Flomax- Tamsulosin , or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring if you are taking any of the medicines listed above. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Generic Flomax- Tamsulosin.
