Generic Cardura-Doxazosin is in a class of drugs called alpha-adrenergic blockers. Generic Cardura-Doxazosin causes the blood vessels (veins and arteries) to relax and expand, which allows blood to pass more easily through them. This medicine is an alpha-blocker used to treat high blood pressure and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH).
Generic Cardura-Doxazosin is an alpha-adrenergic blocking agent used to treat hypertension and benign prostatic hyperplasia. Accordingly, Generic Cardura-Doxazosin is a selective inhibitor of the alpha1 subtype of alpha adrenergic receptors.
Generic Cardura-Doxazosin acts by inhibiting the postsynaptic alpha(1)-adrenoceptors on vascular smooth muscle. This inhibits the vasoconstrictor effect of circulating and locally released catecholamines (epinephrine and norepinephrine), resulting in peripheral vasodilation.
Active Ingredients: Doxazosin.
Inactive Ingredients: Magnesium stearate, lactose, sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium starch glycolate and microcrystalline cellulose.

Generic Cardura-Doxazosin is used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH), which include difficulty urinating (hesitation, dribbling, weak stream, and incomplete bladder emptying), painful urination, and urinary frequency and urgency.
It is also used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure.
Generic Cardura-Doxazosin also is used sometimes with other medications to treat congestive heart failure. Talk to your doctor about the possible risks of using this medication for your condition. This medication may be prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Take Generic Cardura-Doxazosin exactly as directed by your doctor. Take each dose with a full glass of water. The tablets can also be crushed and mixed with liquid or soft food such as pudding or applesauce if you have difficulty swallowing. Generic Cardura-Doxazosin may cause dizziness. It is recommended to take every dose at bedtime, if possible. Use caution when you stand or sit up from a lying position, especially if you wake up during the night. Dizziness may occur when changing positions. Do not stop taking this drug suddenly even if you feel better. Stopping suddenly could cause your blood pressure to increase.
Generic Cardura-Doxazosin should be stored in cupboard at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light. Do not store Generic Cardura-Doxazosin tablets in the bathroom, near the kitchen sink, or in other damp places. Keep always Generic Cardura-Doxazosin medicine out of the reach of children.

This medicine should not be used if you are allergic to one or any of its ingredients. Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you have previously experienced such an allergy. If you feel you have experienced an allergic reaction, stop using this medicine and inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
Generic Cardura-Doxazosin may cause drowsiness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. This medicine may cause dizziness, lightheadedness, or fainting after the first dose. Be careful during exercise, hot weather, and if you must stand for long periods of time. Before drinking alcohol, discuss it with your doctor. Alcohol may worsen dizziness or lightheadedness.

If you miss a dose of Generic Cardura-Doxazosin, take it as soon as possible. If you are taking 1 dose daily and do not remember until the next day, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness and weakness.

The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine but it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect: Headache; impotence; increased need to pass urine; sleepiness (somnolence); weakness or loss of strength (asthenia); inflammation of the lining of the nose (rhinitis) causing a blocked or runny nose; dizziness or loss of balance; skin reactions such as rash and itch; liver disorders; a drop in blood pressure that occurs when going from lying down to sitting or standing, which results in dizziness and lightheadedness (postural hypotension); disturbances of the gut such as diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain; disturbance in the components of the blood; excessive fluid retention in the body tissues, resulting in swelling (oedema); persistent painful erection of the penis (priapism); blood in the urine (haematuria).
