CLASS and MECHANISM of Action
Generic Avapro-Irbesartan is in a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. This medication prevents the constriction (narrowing) of blood vessels (veins and arteries)
Generic Avapro-Irbesartan works by reducing angiotensin 2 formations in our bodies. Angiotensin 2 is a chemical in our bodies known to cause vasoconstriction, which can lead to high blood pressure, fluid retention, and heart problems. Generic Avapro-Irbesartan does not work on ACE (angiotensin 2 converting enzyme) the enzyme involved in the formation of angiotensin. By working directly on angiotensin 2 and not on ACE, Generic Avapro-Irbesartan causes fewer side effects than the ACE inhibitors such as Vasotec, Zestril, and Lotensin.
Active Ingredients: Irbesartan
